A Brief History of the 454

LST 454 was commissioned on January 25, 1943. At that time, the crew consisited of 7 officers and 49 enlisted sailors. As the ship took on a more significant role, her crew grew to over 200 men. The 454 spent most of its active duty in the Southwest Pacific: taking part in 13 invasions and many resupply missions. After the war, the efforts of USS LST 454 and her extraordinary crew were recognized with 8 Battle Stars and credit for shooting down one enemy plane.
